Issue # 45 - How To Make 100k/yr With A Creator Business
Aug 13, 2023Read time: 5 Minutes
Hey,
In this email, I am going to share with you the 3 different models you can use to hit 100k/yr w/ your online creator business.
But before we dive in…
Let’s first let’s define what a creator business is.
A creator business is a business that’s built around your ideas, skills & passions and is powered by an online audience that you’ve built by sharing content around these things.
A creator business will usually monetize via some sort of digital offer such as a service, template, course, coaching program, mastermind, or online community.
Let's get into the models.
Model #1 - Monetization
The monetization model concerns itself with the different vehicles (offers) you will use to make money inside your business.
It is true that you can easily scale to 100k/yr with one offer, that said, your scale won’t be consistent or predictable.
If you want consistency, predictability, and stability you want to have a series of offers that service your clients at each step of their journey not just at one step.
There are 4 different offers you need to have in place to be able to do this.
I’ve written at length about these 4 offers and I won’t make this email longer than it needs to be.
You can read about each of these offers and how they work together here.
The goal of having 4 different offers is to be able to meet people where they are at.
The last thing you want to do is try to sell a screwdriver to someone that needs a drill.
That’s a sure way of driving away potential customers and losing out on potential revenue.
Once you have these 4 offers inside your business… It’s time to get them in the hands of those that need them which brings us to our second model.
Model #2 - Attention
With a creator business, the game we are playing is that of getting, redirecting, and converting attention.
You will use content and your different social channels to do this.
But be careful! The last thing you want to do is become a promotion machine…
You know that guy/gal that’s always showing up on your feed trying to sell you this and that?
Yeah… You don’t want to do that. He/she is probably broke.
Approaching attention in this way is a sure way to destroy the goodwill that you’ve built with your audience.
What you want to do is market in a way where people thank you for marketing to them.
This is an infinite game. One you can play it for as long as it fancies you.
Next week's email will dive deep into the dynamics of how to do this…
But for now, know that to do this, you have to get really good at understanding who you are speaking to, and rather than telling them that you have something to sell, you want to show them - through positioning content - that you can help them.
“Abraham, what is positioning content?”
I am glad you asked…
Positioning content is content that shows your audience that you are an expert or authority at the thing you create content on.
This content will usually be (but not always) of educational nature.
Why do you need this type of content to be able to sell your offers?
Well, If people don’t perceive you as an expert, they simply won’t buy from you.
I mean, think about it, why would they?
If creating this type of content is something you are currently struggling with, I created a whole program that shows you exactly how to create this type of content and position yourself as an authority in any niche in just 30 days - Check it out here.
We don’t have time to dive deeper than this today but tap into next Sunday's email for more on this.
Moving on…
Model #3 - Conversion
The conversion model concerns itself with taking all the attention we generate with content and converting it into clients & cash flow.
To hit 100k/yr you will have a mix of two types of conversion mechanisms - human & digital.
The digital conversion mechanisms are those that require no human input.
These include things like sales pages & webinars.
With digital conversion mechanisms you are responsible for channeling attention to them, and they are responsible for converting that attention into cash flow.
Digital conversion mechanisms are great for offers that are low risk & low investment. In the online business world, we call these - low-ticket offers.
On the other hand, human conversion mechanisms are great for any offer that carries with it a high investment or financial risk on the buyer's end, we call these high-ticket offers.
It’s easy to get someone to buy a $99 product via a landing page but that won’t be the case with a $10,000 offer.
This is why, in your business, you should have clear systematized paths that redirect people toward the appropriate conversion mechanism for the offer they are interested in.
When you’ve nailed down each of these three models within your business, your job becomes simple.
Generate attention with content, channel that attention toward the right monetization vehicle with its appropriate conversion mechanism and fulfill the offer.
The Math
While there are an infinite number of combinations for how you may reach 100k/yr with these three models, here’s one way in which the math may look like over the course of a year.
Drive 1000 people toward your free offer.
Get 100 of those to purchase your low ticket offer priced @ $100 = $10,000
Get 20 of those to purchase your mid-ticket offer priced at $100/m with a lifetime value of $1000 = $20,000
Get 14 of those people to people to purchase your high ticket offer priced @ $5,000 = 70,000
Total Revenue = $100,000
There it is! It’s not rocket science.
It’s good business principles applied to a Creator Business.
